funny things from sweet carly

jake was getting annelise ready for church yesterday and put on her long sleeve white one-sie. Carly came in and declared "Annelise looks like a big milk."

nick and carly had a dentist appointment last friday. the dental assistant asked them both at the same time, who would like to be first. nick and carly were silent for a bit, then carly said "nick does"

Chester the Worldly Pig

The last couple of nights we read Chester the Worldly Pig. It's a great story about a pig who doesn't want to eventually be eaten so he decides to leave the farm and join the circus. Anyway... it's in the beginning of the story he lets us know he doesn't want to be eaten and so I had to explain to Nick and Carly about Chester the pig becoming someone's dinner. Carly, I hope you can imagine her voice in this, looks at me, and while shaking her head says, "we don't eat pigs, we only eat food." she says this a couple of times. and then nick pipes in, "yeah, and we also eat fish." and carly, "we don't eat pigs or fish, we only eat food." it was the same tone of voice she uses when she says "we don't say bad words, only good words." it's so innocent. i didn't want to tell her about how we eat animals, so in order to move on with the story i just told her we don't eat chester. that satisfied her. do you think i should let her in on our little secret of where meat comes from? or do you think i should just wait til she asks where it comes from?

nick's school work

nick has assumed a new name ever since the letter C, which was the first week of school. see if you can figure out who it is. I think today they will be doing letter M, and he does it every time. for those of you having trouble reading his letters, it is Enspecdrgajit.

sha poopy

carly (who sometimes likes to go by carlette) figured out today that annelise was "sha poopy." it was really stinky and i was sure it was annelise, but just to remove any doubt in my mind who it was that stunk, carly got down on her hands and feet, stuck her bum in the air in my direction, and said "see, i'm not sha poopy"
the carlette name she came up with on her own.

in love

about a week ago Caroline, our next door neighbor, was talking to Nick about love. You know how little girls are, watching so many Disney movies, the climax for the girl is love and marriage, and that's when the movie ends. not remembering that, Nick said "Mom, do we love people?", to which I replied, "Yes, we do. Who do you love?". He answered "Caroline" and I though to myself, O great. "What do you love about Caroline?" "Her toys."

at church today

so today i was trying to wipe up carly's nose at church since i didn't clean it before. she didn't like that, she batted my hand away and told me no. then she proceeded to pick her nose and eat it, and then said "that's how you do it, mom."

this week was also the ward campout. the kids had a really fun time at camp nauvoo. in the morning on saturday jake took the kids out on the rafts a little and they really liked that. then we let nick give it a try with some friends, and we let carly get on with a girl in our ward who seemed to be the best of the bunch at managing a raft. we got a bit of a surprise. right after carly got on the raft, the girl started to shove off a bit, then for some reason the girl made a last minute decision to hop off the raft! she was too far away from the side so she landed in the water and left carly on the raft alone!! luckily, another boy had recently fallen off of a raft and he pulled carly and the raft back to us. the whole thing happened in just a matter of seconds and both jake and i were watching right at the edge of the water.

today during father-child interviews jake was talking with carly about the new baby coming to our family. what should we name the new baby carly? "baby beluga".

high school

so nick was asking me today if the neighbor girl is in high school, because she said she was. well, she's in preschool. nick had some questions about high school, like how you get in to to high school. we talked about it starting with 9th grade, and paul jae is in high school and nick is in elementary school.
let's pause for a little background of nick's kindergarten. depending on their behavior they can qualify for a sparkly star sticker on their hand. then they are superstars. if they just made it to good job then they get a smaller sticker. well, it's sort of a big deal to nick if he gets the sparkly star sticker.
back to high school. this is what nick said in the end of our conversation about high school. " i bet in high school you get two sparkly star stickers. TWO!"
